The 100 Mile Cup was first held in the Gulf of Finland under the personal leadership of Tsar Nicholas I from June 18 to 19, 1852.
The race route began on the Kronstadt Grand Raid, skirted the island of Nerva (20 miles from the Finnish coast) and ended on Kotlin Island, on the same Grand Raid. Representatives of St. Petersburg and several English yacht clubs took part in the first 100-mile race. In total, 11 vessels participated in the first race around the island of Nerva — 8 schooners and 3 tenders, of which 6 represented the "lady of the seas". The winner in those historic competitions was the British schooner Claymore, which completed a 100-mile journey in less than 15 hours. And, most surprisingly, this record of a century and a half ago was broken only a couple of years ago!
According to the rules, the route of the race exactly repeats the route of the 19th century competitions: starting from the Kronstadt raid, rounding the left side of the island of Nerva and returning to the starting point at Kronstadt. The length of the route is exactly one hundred nautical miles.
Since 2001, the prizes have been the "100 Mile Cup" and the "Fastest Yacht" cup. Since 2005, the race has been held for the prizes of the MC under the Government of St. Petersburg. In the L-6 class, the first vessel to arrive is awarded the "100 Mile Cup" and the scarlet pennant of the L-6 Association.
The Fastest Yacht Cup is awarded to the crew who came first, regardless of which scoring group they belong to. In groups, awards are given to the first three teams. If only three yachts participate in the group (the minimum number allowed by the competition rules), then the prize is awarded only to the first of them.
*A deposit of 400,000 rubles, based on 8 people on the yacht - 50,000 rubles per person. We do not collect in cash or block on a credit card; however, each participant must be prepared to be responsible for damages within these limits. Any costs associated with damage to the yacht or sails are covered in equal shares by all participants, regardless of fault.
