The IYT International Bareboat Skipper Qualification course runs for 12 days.
The necessary requirements for certification are the qualifications of a VHF radio operator, 200 nautical mile sailing experience, as well as 10 days spent at sea.
The miles and days covered during the training process are counted towards this minimum.
The intensive 12-day program, which includes both theoretical and practical training, is designed for students from scratch.
The recommended minimum age for completing this course is 16 years.
Course program:
Skipper's duties, team safety, food
Monitoring of the condition of the hull and equipment, engine and systems, a campaign plan
Fuel and water capacity and navigation autonomy
Sources of meteorological information, weather events, breezes, types of clouds and their clusters
Course design and transition planning, factor analysis, transition strategy, navigation plan
Standard actions for coastal navigation, position determination, tracking and route marking
Port regulations, customs, emigration formalities
Ropes (ends), knots, use of halyards, deck work
Navigating a vessel in confined spaces, setting up a buoy, anchoring and unmooring, mooring
Tides and currents, the height of the tide, the rule of "twelve", the display on the map of the effects of tides and currents
Rules for preventing collisions (traffic), lights, signs and sounds, application of rules in practice
Efficient use of the boat
Limitations:
Control of vessels up to a maximum length of 78 ft / 24 meters
In coastal areas with a distance of up to 20 miles from the coast
In good weather with moderate wind and waves
This level of qualification is usually the minimum required for yacht rentals in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean.
