Our training course consists of two stages:
Stage 1: Theory
Before the practical sessions, you will be given access to lecture videos (35 hours) and a testing system so you can study the material thoroughly. A solid grasp of theory is the foundation for successful and efficient training.
By the start of practice, you will be confident in your theoretical preparation: you will learn everything about the vessel’s design, including the names of the rigging and gear, the structure of a sailing yacht, and the operation of yacht equipment. You will also study how forces act on the yacht and sails during maneuvers. The theoretical course includes the basics of hydrometeorology, radiocommunications, navigation rules, personal safety, and maritime law—everything a competent skipper needs.
Stage 2: Practice
The practical part lasts 14 days, with accommodation on board the yacht. Of these:
- 10 days — training from 10:00 to 18:00,
- 3 days — a training passage,
- The final day — the exam.
In total, you will log 200 nautical miles in your logbook. The crew consists of no more than 4 people. Training is conducted under an official contract, and our instructor has over 15 years of experience.
During practice, you will master key maneuvers both under power and under sail. Special attention will be paid to docking, the “Man Overboard” maneuver, navigation, and radio communications.
Our goal is to prepare you to become a confident, competent skipper, capable of independently chartering and handling a sailing yacht.
Outcome:
After successfully passing the exams, you will receive the IYT Bareboat Skipper Sail license to operate a sailing yacht up to 24 m and up to 20 miles from the coast, as well as a VHF Radio Operator certificate.
