The history of the holiday:
Fascinade is an ancient custom according to which a string of boats from Perast heads to the tiny island of Our Lady on the Rock, located in the waters of the Bay of Kotor.
Decorated with flowers and burdened with stones, the vessels head towards the picturesque church with blue domes. Upon arrival, the townspeople throw stones into the water near the shore of the island.
Legend has it that sometime in 1452, sailors from Perast found an image of the Virgin Mary and the Christ child here. After that, the residents of the city swore that every time the ship returned safely from sailing, a new stone would be laid in this place. Over time, thanks to their efforts, this tiny island with an area of 3030 square meters appeared, and a beautiful church was erected in honor of the holiday.
