Ocean passage Azores → Madeira

It’s about 500–600 nautical miles of open ocean, typically taking 4–5 days non-stop and self-sufficient.

Late August is one of the best times of year:
• steady winds,
• gentle swell,
• warm weather,
• minimal storm risk.

This makes the Atlantic passage calm and as safe as possible.

During the passage, participants rotate:
day and night watches, sail handling, navigation and working with the equipment, learning and practice — or simply resting, as each prefers.

The crew lives aboard as one team: we cook together, plan watches, and watch dolphins and the starry sky in the middle of the ocean.

Finish in Madeira — Funchal or Porto Santo.

• Funchal — lush greenery, tropical gardens, black‑sand beaches, mountain switchbacks;
• Porto Santo — a golden 10‑kilometre beach and a completely different atmosphere.

The final destination is chosen based on weather and participants’ logistics.

Ending the voyage is a sharp contrast after the ocean’s quiet: vibrant Madeira, great food, warm evenings, and the feeling of a big seafaring job well done.
