WHO IS THE CAPTAIN SCHOOL FOR?
For those who need an international IYT yachting license to charter sailing yachts in different countries.

OVERVIEW:
Captain School is an IYT Bareboat Skipper training course where students learn to handle a cruising sailing yacht. Delivered jointly with Yacht school YNFA, an official IYT partner.

IYT (International Yacht Training) is one of the most popular and widely recognized yacht captain training systems in the world.
Duration: 14 days.

YOU WILL LEARN TO:
- Accept a yacht from charter companies and identify deficiencies
- Perform yacht equipment checks
- Conduct safety briefings
- Organize life on board
- Prepare the yacht for a passage using a checklist
- Plan an independent passage
- Work with sailing directions (pilot books)
- Use paper and electronic charts
- Apply meteorological data
- Communicate via VHF radio
- Tie knots
- Set and douse sails
- Perform Man Overboard procedures
- Berth alongside and stern-to
- Anchor a sailing yacht
- Pick up a mooring buoy
- Heave-to a sailing yacht
- Fix the yacht’s position (master the cross-bearing method)
- Identify navigation lights, marks, and sound signals
- Apply the COLREGs
- Complete border and customs formalities

COURSE COST consists of:
- CAPTAIN SCHOOL – 1600€
- Training: conducted by certified IYT instructors.
- Accommodation: twin cabins.
- Berth fees in the base marina (Tivat) and yacht cleaning after the course.

- REGISTRATION IN MONTENEGRO

If you enter Montenegro as a tourist, you must pay the tourist tax. The amount is calculated for the duration of the Captain School (14 days).

- TRAINING DOCUMENTS

- CERTIFICATE IYT Bareboat Skipper (sailing yacht handling)
- CERTIFICATE VHF-SRC Marine Communication Master
- LOGBOOK – a personal logbook to record miles and passages

*Scope of the CERTIFICATE IYT Bareboat Skipper: you may independently skipper a sailing yacht up to 24 meters LOA, no farther than 20 miles from the coast, in daylight and fair weather.

Payment is made after you pass the knowledge and skills assessment.

The assessment consists of a written test and a practical demonstration of yacht-handling skills during the final week of training.

Document shipping is paid separately according to carrier tariffs (on request).

- Travel to the CAPTAIN SCHOOL location – Tivat, Montenegro.

About me

Sailing instructor and educator

A physicist by training, he has loved sailing since childhood. After devouring sailing books, Vanya dreamed of a three-masted ship, but at 11 he was given an Optimist, so he started out on that.
Vanya is a professional athlete, a multiple Moscow champion, and a medalist and stage winner of the Russian Cup in the Olympic Finn class, as well as other competitions. He has been a sailing coach for more than seven years.
